What Are Business Services?

Business services are activities that support a company’s mission and goals but do not result in the creation of a tangible product. These activities include information technology, accounting and marketing. Companies that don’t have the resources to provide these services internally may outsource them to third-party providers. This allows the company to focus on its core competencies while relying on outside expertise to support essential operations.

There are four major types of Business Services: Administrative, Data and Analytics, Customer Support, and IT Service Management. Each one has a different function and impact on the enterprise. The most important thing is for the four services to work together cohesively to create a competitive advantage for the organization. When a company has all four elements working together, it has a more stable and resilient organization. This is the case with organizations like Walmart, Commerce Bank and the Cleveland Clinic.

The business services industry provides a wide range of activities that are designed to help companies and individuals perform their jobs better. These activities are typically performed by professionals with specialized skills or knowledge, such as lawyers, accountants and consultants. The industry also includes services that are designed to make a business more efficient, such as janitorial and waste management services, and utilities that are provided to businesses, such as electricity and solar power.

Companies can use business services to improve their performance and management, increase profitability, gain a competitive edge, and adapt quickly to changing market conditions. For example, a company can hire a consultant to help it build a business strategy and develop a plan to attract investors. It can also use consulting services to identify and manage risks. Other business services that can help companies reach their goals include professional translation and project management.

To work in the business services industry, you need to have at least a high school diploma and good communication skills. The qualifications for specific roles vary depending on the industry in which you want to work, but you can expect to need at least a bachelor’s degree for most positions in the field. Some jobs in the field require a license or certification, such as being a certified public accountant or an architect.

The Business Services page displays a list of the business, IT and device services that you have access to, as well as their health, availability and risk metrics. Click the star icon ( ) to mark a service as favorite, which will display it at the top of the list by default. You can also select which metrics you want to display on the page. You can also customize the Business Services page by creating your own dashboards. For more information, see the Creating Dashboards topic. You can also sync services between ServiceNow and SL1. However, services must either be built entirely in ServiceNow or in SL1; they cannot be mixed. See the Syncing Business Services topic for more information.
