Entertaiment is a multifaceted concept that can be applied to a wide range of activities and events. It can involve a single person who chooses private entertainment from a wide array of pre-recorded products; it may encompass a dinner party with the proper food and music; it may refer to the whole of an edifice that is devoted to entertainment, such as the theater, opera house or stadium; or it may be a worldwide event such as a political protest or a religious festival. The word is derived from the Latin intertenere, meaning to hold inside, but has developed a much wider scope of application over time.
