The earliest known version of poker in Europe was a bluffing game played by German sailors in the sixteenth century. Later, the game spread to New Orleans, Louisiana, where it was introduced by French settlers. During the American Revolution, the game was called three-card brag. Eventually, it evolved into a full-fledged game. Today, three-card brag is a popular gentleman’s game in the U.K.

Although the origin of poker is not entirely clear, it is widely thought to be related to a German game called primero. Various versions of the game have been developed and adapted to suit the needs of various players.
