Entertaiment is the activity of providing amusement and recreation for others. It can include a variety of experiences such as movies and television, music, books, games, sports, dance performances, and the visual arts. Entertainment also includes ceremonies, celebrations, religious festivals, and satire.
The word entertainment derives from the Latin inter tenere, meaning “to hold inside.” It has evolved to adapt on any scale, from the choice of an individual from an immense array of pre-recorded products; to banquets adapted for two; to performances intended for thousands.
The entertainment industry often hits on the points our brains were evolved to react deeply to, such as social backstabbing and murders. This can cause a strong emotional reaction which makes us feel good, because our brains release seratonin and dopamine.
